Martha became interested in yoga in her 30’s. She developed a consistent practice in her 40’s
and started teaching soon thereafter. Martha’s yogic path made twists and turns along the way,
and she chose vinyasa flow as her primary yoga asana style several years ago. Her focus today
includes asana (poses) on the mat, along with yoga’s ethical and spiritual teachings both on and
off the mat.
Martha lives with her husband and their well-loved pets. She enjoys teaching classes and private
clients here in Portsmouth and around the seacoast, as well as in Costa Rica during their near
annual trips to a small community there.
Her passion for yoga has enhanced her passion for life. She looks forward to seeing you on the

Shelly Grande is an international Yoga Teacher, Reiki Master Teacher and creator of malas. She connected with yoga while living in Australia and found home on her mat. Since then she has completed a Yin Yoga training with Josh Summers and a Kundalini Yoga training with Guru Jagat. Her classes are a practice of self love inspired by Ashtanga, Vinyasa, Yin, Kundalini, and cosmic astrology. She whole-heartedly believes in the infinite healing abilities of Yoga, Reiki and Meditation. Join Shelly for a Reiki healing session or practice on the mat and invite peace and ease into your world.
Jessica became a yoga teacher to help people find peace within themselves through the power of
movement. What drew her to the practice of yoga was her own journey of seeking peace and self
love, and she wishes to share this practice with her students. With over 10 years of personal
practice, and a wide resume of yoga teaching experience, Jessica is prepared to share her
expertise with each and every one of her students.
Yoga, she believes, is best summarized by an excerpt from the Bhagavad Gita: "Yoga is the
journey of the self, through the self, to the self."
Gail began her yoga practice about 20 years ago when she recognized her body needed love while being a rigorous athlete as a semi-pro volleyball player. What she discovered was that the practice of yoga not only helped heal her body but also guided her back to a positive emotional and spiritual well-being. She believes that yoga may help an individual become more self-aware, which allows a deeper level of understanding toward being more authentic. Gail has trained with Gopi Kinnicutt, Sondra Loring and Raghunath as a Yoga Alliance ERYT 500 hour Bhakti Instructor. She also has studied with Edwin Bryant and Radhanath Swami. With a background in psychotherapy, Gail fuses her athletic, education and yoga experience in a light-hearted practice that will invigorate your mind, body and soul!
Jillian first found yoga when a new studio opened nearby and she thought, “Why not?” and immediately fell in love after her first class. She felt so inspired by the community around her that it led her to enroll in a 200-HR yoga teacher training program, and then get her Reiki I & Reiki II certifications.
Jillian wants her students to have their own unique practice. She found her practice by exploring and experimenting with poses and encourages her students to do the same. Because she is also a certified Kettlebell coach, Jillian has an athletic-focused vinyasa. Her goals when teaching are for her students to feel both safe and free when taking a pose to their fullest expression, whatever that may look like. And of course, she likes to have quite a few laughs along the way.
When she's not on her mat, Jillian can be found exploring outdoors with her husband and puppy, trying new foods, or relaxing at home watching reruns of New Girl.
In addition to her RYT-200, Jillian is also Reiki I and Reiki II certified.
Becky is a licensed physical therapist with 25 years of experience in the rehabilitation and wellness industry. As an ACSM certified group exercise instructor and Y-certified 200 hour RYT, she teaches a variety of classes throughout the Seacoast. She infuses her classes with her knowledge of anatomy, injury care, and body awareness. She believes the spiritual side of yoga serves to enhance the physical aspect of wellness it brings. Always approachable for requests or questions, she aims to have everyone leave class knowing a little bit more about their bodies and with a clearer mind. Every class is different from the one before, and poses are integrated to flow naturally, fusing the breath and the body to find strength and ease.
Karyn’s experience of yoga began as a physical practice that morphed over time into a journey of self-discovery and acceptance. Her goal as a teacher is to help create a feeling of ease within the practice for each student. Her classes draw inspiration from Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga, a traditional philosophy developed by Sri K. Pattabhi Jois that involves a progressive series of postures coordinating breath and movement. Each class builds confidence and knowledge of one’s body through facilitation of a supportive and nurturing atmosphere. Karyn offers a balance between guiding students through the challenges of each posture as well as respecting and bringing awareness to their individual practice. She teachers from personal experience and shares her knowledge with clarity and joy. She has a wondering eye toward anything fun, exploratory and upside-down.
Lisa was introduced to Yoga back in college while attending the University of Vermont. She recalls first being intrigued by Nataragasana, Dancer Pose, and later so much more. After practicing yoga for several years thereafter, she decided to leave the corporate world and begin a whole new journey. She became an avid student of David Swenson, Scott Blossom, Larissa Carlson, Sarah Powers, Donna Farhi, Coby Kozlowski and the whole Kripalu lineage, later completing 500 Hours in both Kripalu Yoga and Ayurvedic Yoga.
Lisa began teaching in 1999 after her second child, Haley, was born. Being a former expat, she was fortunate to take her teachings and practice globally. Throughout the years, Lisa was exposed to different cultures, styles and languages. One might call her teaching eclectic, threading Ashtanga, Vinyasa, Kripalu, Yin and Ayurvedic Yoga into her classes.
As an Ayurvedic Health Counselor, and student of Vedic Astrology, she also enjoys weaving these ancient traditions into her teaching. She is excited to be back in New England, dancing into a new phase of her life and having the opportunity to share the gifts of Yoga, Ayurveda and Vedic Astrology with the Portsmouth Yoga Community.
